DESCRIPTION:The Ohio State University Libraries has 15 open access agreements with journal publishers that can waive fees for authors choosing to publish open access. This session will explore outcomes over the past six years with an author’s choice lens and highlight ongoing research into agreement uptake. The snapshots shared will include: benefit uptake within and across agreements (e.g.\, did authors choose open access via an agreement or choose to publish behind a paywall)\; when given a choice of open license\, what Creative Commons licenses did authors choose\; and what are the publishing patterns of highly prolific authors across our agreements?

DESCRIPTION:Most academic libraries have seen their subscription budgets remain flat or continually decrease for the past two decades. In 2026\, any “low-hanging fruit” is gone\, and no subscription cancellation will go unnoticed. Libraries must try to estimate the impacts of subscription cuts to guide decision-making\, engage in proactive outreach and set instructional focus areas. \n\nThis session will describe how collections personnel at a library in a difficult budget environment are using collections data and backend knowledge of electronic resources to estimate the impacts of subscription cuts\, and demonstrate effective ways to present information for internal discussions with other library departments.

DESCRIPTION:Library technical services are foundational to the effective functioning of the library\, yet success in this work is often measured by what patrons do not notice: seamless discovery of and access to library resources. This ""invisibility"" can mean that the scope\, importance and impact of technical services work is not fully understood and in times of financial constraint technical services positions may not rise to the top of the priority list.\n\nThis presentation describes how the Collections\, Discovery\, and Scholarly Communication (CDSC) division at UNLV Libraries navigated continuous staffing shortages from 2020 through 2026 and how these challenges created unexpected opportunities to increase awareness of the division's expertise\, complexity and strategic importance across the organization.

DESCRIPTION:At Georgia Southern University\, our popular reading collections reach users across five libraries and online\, from a small branch serving a campus with 1\,000 students to another serving 25\,000. Each selection comes with choices: a print copy we own\, a perpetually licensed copy\, or a metered access license. Print adds another consideration\, genrefication\, which shapes how readers browse and discover titles. In this session\, we share how we weigh these options by matching format to reach and demand\, including when an expiring license fits a title better than owning it outright.

DESCRIPTION:This session provides an in-depth look at eighteen months of usage and publication data under Clemson University’s Transformative Agreements. Transformative Agreements continue to be difficult to value in terms of usage and cost savings due to a lack of standardized metrics like those used to measure traditional subscription package value. &nbsp\;However\, analyzing OA publishing and usage activity can help reveal disciplinary and strategic alignment and identify areas in need of marketing and outreach. &nbsp\;This research also points to the need for publishers to provide standardized reports that include both usage and publishing activity to assist in making data-driven acquisitions decisions. &nbsp\;

SUMMARY:They Authenticated Without Us: The Patron Exodus\, Federated Access\, and the Infrastructure Gap Libraries Can't Afford to Ignore
DESCRIPTION:Most academic patrons don't begin research inside the library's ecosystem—they start on Google\, Google Scholar\, and publisher platforms. When they hit a paywall there\, proxy-based access is powerless to help\, and the resulting login failures aren't a user behavior problem\; they're the cost of infrastructure never designed for how research actually happens. \n\nThis session draws on Coastal Carolina University's migration from EZproxy to OpenAthens federated access to argue that authentication must move to the point of need. CCU's migration cut access-related support requests by 80%\, not through user training\, but because the infrastructure finally met users where they were.

SUMMARY:Introduction and Vision Session -- Working Through the Messy Middle: AI\, Burnout\, and Letting Work Go
DESCRIPTION:My experience with AI in libraries has developed alongside persistent burnout. This presentation examines the messy middle between experimenting with AI and building sustainable practices around it. AI can reduce some forms of work\, but adopting it also creates new responsibilities involving instruction\, evaluation\, ethics\, policy\, and organizational change. Drawing on my experience introducing AI-supported tools and programs\, I will discuss why innovation cannot simply be added to an already unsustainable workload. Using the CALM framework—Communication\, Adaptability\, Learning\, and Management—I will consider how organizational culture can either intensify burnout or create the conditions for thoughtful change. Moving forward has required me not only to adopt new practices\, but also to let go of tasks\, services\, and expectations that no longer serve the library.
